The fourth annual Off Highway Vehicle Management Workshop is being planned for July 7th to July 10th, 2004
(Wednesday through Saturday) in the area around beautiful Grand Lake, Colorado, in the Sulphur Ranger District.
Sponsored by Colorado State Parks - OHV Program, Colorado Off-Highway Vehicle Coalition, US Forest Service,
and BLM. The cadre of speakers will consist of some of the most experienced OHV managers in the Nation. This
year will also include a more intense, hands-on training and demonstration for everyone, on how to effectively utilize
a SWECO Trail Dozer for trail maintenance applications. Most importantly, this workshop is an ideal time for land
managers and OHV enthusiasts to discuss issues in a relaxed manner.
The objectives of the sessions are to: focus on specific agency needs, provide needed certification for specialized
equipment; develop strong working relationships between enthusiasts and land managers; better understand OHV
recreation needs; learn about successful planning and management strategies for meeting those needs; develop OHV
and travel management expertise; provide an opportunity to train trail crews supported by OHV Registration funds;
with greater emphasis on in-the-field projects for maintenance and construction of motorized trails.
The workshop agenda will be designed for a combined audience of Line Managers, Field Specialists, and OHV
Enthusiasts. Wednesday will be set-aside for ATV, Dirt Bike and 4 Wheel Drive Operator Certification Training.
Thursday will involve field trips and discussions of issues and specific agency needs. Friday and Saturday are
targeted toward Field Personnel and OHV Enthusiasts with Field Exercises in Trail Design Applications and
demonstrations of environmentally sound SWECO operations and hands on training for specific management
techniques. Other types of Field Classes and training will include Chainsaws, Sound and Spark Testing,
Quick Trail Fixes, GPS/Map Reading and ATV & Dirt Bike Maintenance.
