| Roadless Areas Review Task Force Needs Motorized Support | | Sunday, October 30, 2005 | News Flash: Roadless Areas Review Task Force in Action
What's going on: The bipartisan Roadless Areas Review Task Force - as directed by Colorado State Legislature - will hold its first public hearing in Delta, CO to gather public comments on the future of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison National Forests. The task force will make a recommendation to Governor Owens as to whether or not there should be additional roadless areas in Colorado.
Here's how you can help: "Get the word out! " The media is expected to attend this hearing and we want you as responsible Off Road Recreationists to be heard. The meeting takes place next week Wednesday evening and we urge you to attend. Your comments suggesting the need for additional roadless areas in the locations mentioned above will provide the ammunition we all need for the Task Force to move forward in our favor.
You're hosts - Colorado Off-Highway Vehicle Coalition (COHVCO) and the Blue Ribbon Coalition (BRC): That evening, these two OHV powerhouses will share the stage during the barbeque for all our fellow motorized supporters COHVCO's Chairman, Dennis Larratt and Blue Ribbon's Brian Hawthorne will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. Additional COHVCO directors will be on hand to help rally all the supporters and help organize the effort.
How important is your attendance: The Wilderness Supporters will be shipping in there people by the bus loads! Confirming information indicates they will be bussing in supports to sign up and speak on behalf of the non motorized initiatives. A handful of motorized supporters won't get it. The majority of this effort depends on the number of supporters in attendance. Attending early or on time will be of great significance. Below you will find the information needed to attend.
If you can't attend you can still help: As most of you know, keeping our existing trails open for our privilege to ride has been a consistent battle. Now we have the opportunity to expand our trail systems in Colorado in a big way. If you're unable to attend, getting the word out to every single contact you have is paramount in this effort. If perhaps you have contacts in and around the Grand Junction, Montrose or Delta areas we urge you to share this information with them. More distant recreationists may also find the drive worth the effort. Some of you may receive this notice more than once, please excuse the inconvenience.
