Protecting Our OHV Privilege

2001 OHV Management Workshop

COHVCO is in the process of organizing an OHV workshop to bring together OHV enthusiasts, OHV experts, and land managers. The goal of the program is to educate each other on land management and other OHV issues. Click here for details including dates.

Colorado OHV Program Grants

Since its inception in 1990, the Colorado OHV Program has returned over $2.5 million of OHV registration fees to trail users in the form of grants for trail maintenance and improvements. In 1998, $367,840 was allocated for 9 projects. In 1999, $880,000 was allocated for 25 trail projects. Click here for the complete list of projects and grant awards from the Colorado DNR website or click here for information on how all trails are funded in Colorado.

Colorado Snowmobile Program Grants

Colorado Snowmobile registration program registered 30,982 sleds for the 1999-2000 season. This represents $464,730 dollars in registration fees, an increase of 3.3% over the 1998-1999 season. These registration fees are combined with other federal and state funds to cover program administration costs, provide capital grants for groomer purchases, and provide money to operate the groomers. Seven snommobile clubs are combining capital grants with club money to purchase groomers this season. 27 snowmobile clubs will then use $341,375 of the snowmobile budget to mark, groom, and sign 2600 miles of Colorado's 3500 miles of snowmobile trails.

Pawnee National Grasslands Project
Constructing the parking lot fence at the Main Draw OHV area in the Pawnee National Grasslands. This project by the Northern Colorado Trail Riders used $18,630 of your registration fees for access road, signage, and trailhead improvements.

COHVCO Projects

COHVCO is currently participating in two trail-related projects. The first is an economic impact study and the second is uniform signage for all trails.

Economic Impact Study of Colorado OHV Recreation

Contract a research firm to produce documentation of recent economic history and future projections of the economic impact of OHV recreation in Colorado. Create primary data of existing users and related expenditures. Create secondary data of registered OHV users to make projections. Research data to go back 5 years. This study is funded by a Colorado OHV Program grant.

Interagency State-Wide Uniform Travel Management Signing

This project is to implement Phase 2 of the program to fund uniform travel management signing on all public lands in Colorado. The goal is to provide clear and consistent direction for motorized and non-motorized roads and trails across jurisdictional boundaries. This project is funded by a Colorado OHV Program grant.
